Annual Summary 2008-2009 School Year

Clarendon Christian Learning Center ministered to approximately 500 students during the 2008-2009 school year. Total enrollment was down from the previous year, however, staff agreed that the quality of classes improved, and students benefited from smaller class size. Numbers given below represent actual numbers taken at the end of the year. They do not include students who did not complete the course but were transferred to other schools or classes.

At the high school level, 27 students were given academic credit as we surveyed the Old and New Testaments during first and second semester respectively. Other than the Bible, Image to Image by Wendy Robinson and Deeper Roots were the main curricula. A trip to Water Missions International afforded a first hand look at humanitarian aid to third world countries and disaster relief worldwide. Students donated their time to this ministry by painting and cleaning inside the headquarters in Charleston, SC. Before the day was over, we were blessed to join Water Missions staff and volunteers in prayer for the safe passage of sustainable water treatment systems being shipped to Sri Lanka as they were loaded into the waiting trailer. We also prayed for an opportunity to share “Living Water.” Other field trips included attending life of Christ dramas “This Man Called Jesus” and “The Thorn” as well as a cookout and devotion time in the teacher’s home. Students also participated in a clean up day at the classroom and painted the building. The final semester class hosted an end-of-the-year tea for supporters where they shared Scripture memory verses, testimonies, songs, and more.

10 junior high students participated in 3, 9-week sessions this year. Students were taught from the Bible and Dare to Be a Daniel.

At year end, 217 elementary students, grades 4-6, successfully completed a Bible course at CCLC attending one day per week all year. The curriculum used was Firm Foundations. Students were encouraged to memorize Bible verses and also viewed the Jesus Video for Children. Year end crafts included: Salvation necklaces (4th graders), Memory verse lines (5th graders), and Memory/Prayer Journals (6th graders).

At the primary school level, 214 students walked over to CCLC where they were taught from Route 52. At year end, all second graders were presented with Hands On Bibles.

CCLC hosted a banquet in the fall of 2008. Participating students recited memory verses and sang. A generous donor provided T-shirts for CCLC students and staff.

In the spring, ten local church choirs participated in the CCLC spring Choir Festival. A small student choir also sang at this event.

The Lord is at work in the lives of CCLC students. Many have committed their lives to Christ and all have benefited from the wise and practical truths of Scripture. Also, the “character counts” theme adopted by our schools, city, and county is enhanced by the “released time” program at Clarendon Christian Learning Center.
