A Time to Sow Seeds of Hope

Tuesday afternoon CCLC District 3 Middle School students presented for their families and friends skits, memory verses, artwork and testimonies. Sixth graders focused on Genesis while older students shared their findings from a study in Ecclesiastes.

Many testified to the benefits of leaving the typical school day for about an hour with their peers to pray, study the Word, and memorize Scripture. Some spoke of their deeper faith with the Lord or first time commitment to Christ.

After a time of refreshments and fellowship, the sound of sirens was heard in the distance by those who lingered to visit. We made our way out to Main Street, Turbeville, to watch the motorcade escorting Officer Farrah Turner from Charleston to Lake City for burial. A long train of police motorcycles and vehicles, led overhead by a police helicopter, zoomed by as many lined the streets showing their gratitude and respect for Officer Turner and the men and women in blue who protect our lives.

In the background, the bells of Turbeville Southern Methodist Church rang "Throw Out the Lifeline" an old gospel song by Ella Fitzgerald. It was a sacred moment following the earlier recitation of the middle schoolers.

Ecclesiastes 3 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

2 a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.

Tuesday was a time of weeping for the senseless loss of a faithful woman, but a time to sow seeds of hope and the urgent need for salvation to all who were "listening".
